SMALL BUSINESS FEATURE (Feb 2014) - BOnline.com

Source: http://www.bonline.com/blog/small-business-website-of-the-week-photography-by-joe-bickerton/

Background

Joe Bickerton is a professional photographer based in Wirral, Merseyside, and has been shooting weddings in the North West of England and North Wales since 2009. Prior to finding bOnline, Joe had never had a website for his growing business. He said Id survived off using social media and a free blogsite but as my business started to grow, I decided that a website would give me more creativity to showcase my work, pricing and contact details etc.

Solution

After doing some research online, Joe decided to build a DIY site using bOnlines easy website builder. He said I did a review of most of the major online website building companies. Some looked appealing and the packages were roughly comparable, but Id heard whispers of poor customer service, difficult contracts and so on.

Joe spent time using the editing tools to customise his website so it reflected his business in the best way. I took my time setting up the site with different layouts and I asked friends to critically review it, until I felt it was just right.

As with all bOnline websites, Joes new business website came with SEO tools built-in, to optimise the site to be found on search engines. Joe commented I was pretty impressed with the SEO support offered by bOnline too as my work area is pretty competitive!

Results

Joes photography website was launched in January 2014, and has already attracted customers. Joe said: Typically, my previous bookings had all been via word of mouth, recommendations and social media but already Ive had bookings based on hits on my website.

Joe also said he would recommend a website to other photographers: As your business grows even if youre not commercial its an excellent investment to just showcase your work and raise your profile.

Overall, Joe commented that the DIY package was the right choice for his business website: “For just over £10 per month the bOnline package offers good value – and the online support, stability, hosting and creative control I have is excellent.”

DAVID & JO’S TIPI WEDDING!

7th September 2013 - St. Matthews Church, Stretton and Comberbach, Northwich, UK.

David & Jo asked me to capture their wedding earlier this year - and I was really excited about this one as it featured tipi’s!  Their wedding was very traditional, in Jo’s family parish church before we headed off to her parents farm where @elite_tents had erected a fabulous tipi - big enough to hold (and keep warm!) all 130 guests!

Here are a selection of photos from their special day….

MICHAEL & RENU’S HYLANDS HOUSE WEDDING

photographyjoebickerton:

Michael & Renu had a beautiful wedding at Hyland’s House on Saturday 3rd August 2013.  I’ve known Michael since he was 11, when our paths crossed at the start of secondary school.  Through our love of Everton - we grew up through school and university, before Michael made the move down south to London in 2004 where he is now a respected music teacher.  We remained close though - and Michael was one of my best men when I got married earlier this year.

Michael’s bride was Renu - who I’ve known for several years and can see that they make a perfect couple.  Renu’s family were really welcoming throughout the weekend (they even made a great picnic for us as we met-up in the park the next day!).  Apart from the wedding, the highlight for me was the evening “dance-off” between Renu’s Indian family - and us scousers (…imagine The Beatles one minute - then Bollywood classics the next!). Great fun.

Here are some of the images from their special day…

FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT

The Wilson’s - March 2013

I was recently asked to do some family pictures for some of my wider family who have had a number of additions over the last few years!  Capturing family portraits whilst children are young is a fun and rewarding experience - and provide some great evidence to show them on their 18th birthday!

The whole shoot took just over an hour and was enjoyed by all.  I am not studio based - I bring the set to you.  We can do portrait sessions indoor or outdoor (weather depending!) and they cost £50 per hour.  You will receive all high-res images on a CD and a private online gallery.

CLARE & DAN: Pre-wedding shoot - sneak peak…. 26th January 2013
Had a fantastic morning (albeit a little chilly!) working with Clare & Dan on their pre-wedding shoot. Typically, as the photographer I got a soaking in the slush after last night’s snow - but trainers can dry! These are just a couple of photos - the bride & groom (to be) get first look at the rest! Pre-wedding shoots are a great way to get some really intimate pictures. They come as part of my gold package - or if you just want one seperately, it is £50 and usually takes around an hour!

SIMON & JOANNE’S WEDDING DAY STORY

25th August 2012 - The Liner Hotel, Liverpool.

Events and weddings supervisor: Jen Bruce @TheLinerLiverpool (Tweet: @LinerJenBruce )

Joanne & Simon contacted me to capture their wedding earlier this year and I was only too happy to help out.  I’ve known The Liner Hotel for a number of years, but this was my first time shooting inside the impressive Britannic Suite, complete with it’s nautical funnels, ships rails and porthole windows - a real reflection of Liverpool’s strong maritime history!

I met Simon just after lunchtime, having been welcomed by the superb events coordinator at The Liner - Jen.  Unlike many grooms, Simon was relatively calm and in control…just how it should be!  The ceremony was a intimate one, with friends and family celebrating with Joanne, Simon and their son, Jack.

I worked in the background throughout the day, although we did head to the magnificent St George’s Hall (just opposite The Liner) to take advatage of it’s impressive backdrop for some group photos.

The party continued well into the evening in the Britannic Suite and capped a wonderful day for them both.  Here are a small selection of images from the day…

CHARLOTTE & FRED’S WEDDING DAY

18th August 2012 - Crosby Hall Educational Trust, Crosby, Merseyside.

Charlotte & Fred were introduced to my work through a friend and former University tutor, Paul Rooney at Liverpool Hope.  Having met Charlotte prior to the wedding and talked through her plans for the ceremony and post-celebrations - I was really looking forward to their big day.

Thankfully, there were no delays coming back from my own holiday - the day after which was the wedding!

Crosby Educational Trust is a barn setting on a working farm just north of Liverpool.  It has beautiful grounds and a real rural feel that enabled us to get some fantastic backdrops to the pictures (see images below!).

I met Charlotte earlier in the day to capture the bridal preparations up in Birkdale, before heading down to Crosby where I met Fred and his groomsmen.

The day was perfect, the sun made a long appearence and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed ambience offered by the venue.  I’ll let the video and pictures tell the rest of the story….

ANDREW & VICKY WEDDING SHOOT

St John’s Church, Knotty Ash, Liverpool & reception at Liverpool Hope University - Saturday 28th July 2012

Hair & Make-up: @meeshwillow (Twitter)

DJ: @floorphillaz (Facebook)

I first met Andrew & Victoria earlier this year when they came over to Hoylake for an engagement shoot at Red Rocks (Andrew had proposed to Vicky last year on holiday with friends in the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas!).  Having established a relationship, I was really looking forward to capturing their wedding day.

The bride & her groom had met at school and gone through University together, so it was fitting that the reception was held at Liverpool Hope University - a special place for both.

I arrived early to capture the bridal preparations, with Michelle Wilson doing Vicky’s make-up - before heading off to the church to meet a relaxed Andrew and his groomsmen.  Fortunately, the vicar was very accommodating (great for a photographer!) and gave myself and the videographer a prime spot at the rear of the altar.

Following the wedding, the party moved on to Liverpool Hope University for the reception - indeed they were actually the FIRST bride & groom to be hosted within the new hotel & reception suite at Hope Park.

I will let the images below tell the rest of the story…
